I am a mother of four adult children and grandmother to a little one. My early career years were spent making home with my family. When my children were little I loved the freedom to play and learn with them. I cared for other children along with my own and our days were full. I’m deeply thankful for the privilege of being an at-home mom. That time let me discover the values I wanted for myself and for all children. We learned how to love and how to help each other grow. We were active in environmental and human rights groups and we practiced how to be respectful and caring individuals in a diverse and hurting world. And we had fun enjoying the wonderful ways to celebrate in community.

When my youngest was six-years-old and I was thirty-six, I went back to school. I worked for awhile with the United and Anglican churches of Canada and for a shelter for homeless women. At fifty, I returned to my first love, caring for children and I got my Early Childhood Education Diploma. I opened a home day care, and after about two years I decided to license. The joy children bring into my life now is the same as it was when I was an at-home mom. Working in this field I am reminded every day of the beautiful gifts our children bring to us. I am reminded that a happy healthy society depends on us, the parents, caregivers and all early childhood educators to give our children memorable, positive experiences; good times they will cherish in their hearts and minds throughout their lives.
